Hypostatic Union (from the Greek: , "hypostasis," meaning essence)[1] is a technical term in Christian theology, used in reference to Christology; that is, understanding how the human and divine are united in the person of Christ. The term "hypostatic union" became official at the Council of Chalcedon, which stated that the two natures (divine and human) are united in the one person (essence, "hypostasis") of Christ.[2]
